Stop everything. Run out into your garden. Survey that overgrown, weedy patch, and see it in a new light. It’s now a wild greens garden. ALL FOR YOU.

That’s right, there’s a salad bar on your doorstep. Free, fresh salad greens. For successful Australian foraging, I heartily recommend The Weed Forager’s Handbook: A Guide to Edible and Medicinal Weeds in Australia. It’ll keep you in free, wild food all year round to supplement your meals if you’re savvy.

Some tasty standby wild greens are chickweed and dandelion greens, both of which you’ll find in abundance in the Milton-Ulladulla area.

Chickweed is high in vitamin C and tastes similar to spinach, while dandelion greens are jammed full of iron, potassium and beta-carotene. You can eat these both raw or cooked. Get creative and dazzle your friends with a delicious, wild hit of nutrient-rich goodness.
